How about a non-Friday favorite post??

I told you all that I went to Mayra's baby shower almost two weeks ago.
Well I have pictures to prove it!
Enjoy!!

Mayra, the cutest little pregnant lady! Seriously I think her belly looks to cute to be real!!

Food! Mayra made the cake pops by herself! So cute and delicious!!!

The whole picture taking thing was kind of an after thought, so they are all pretty much of Mayra opening gifts.
Sad news, we didn't even take ONE photo together. : (
Just another reason to go visit.
And to meet my pseudo-niece : )

Want to see what I made the little munchkin?

Two little dresses. I was going to make another, but considering that I made one the hour before I left, I didn't have time.
Another reason to visit!!!

Until next time!

These are terrible pictures.

I'm not too proud of these pictures
but it's all I had and I wanted to share with you.

I made this dress for Valentine's Day with the intention of wearing it out.
But plans changed and I didn't wear it.
But I still can wear other times and places.
I originally started making a tutorial for this dress, but I had about one billion problems.
I wanted to cry and throw the dress away pretty much the entire time I was making it. But I kept with it.
I like how it turned out but it's not at all what I had in mind.
I will attempt to get some better photos
and then show you them at a later time.

P.S this is all the snow that we have gotten all winter long.
It was only about three inches and was melted within the week.
Crazy!

Until next time!

I have never been so happy that a day was over.

Seriously.
I wanted to cry tears of joy when I got out of my last class.
Remember that week from heck?
Well everything is officially over.
Sososososo glad that I don't have to worry about another test for about a month.
I haven't been up to too much sewing, in fact none at all.
But I did get some fabric to make a new dress.
And I don't have class on Thursday, so you know where I will be.
Yay for sewing!
Have you guys been up to any sweet projects lately?

Until next time!

My Attempt At A Tutorial

I call this my Indian Tribal dress. Simply because of the pattern on the material. I am going to attempt to show you how to make one for yourself!

So I chose a shirt that fit pretty well and was longish. Turn your shirt inside out and tuck the sleeves inside. Make sure you expose all of your seams. Then trace the shirt and give yourself some seam allowance. About an inch is what I did. If you look closely there is a pocket. This was my first time trying an in seam pocket. I didn't make it big enough and when I tried the dress on the pockets looked really silly, so I just took them out. But if you want some pockets here is what I did. I pretended to put my hands in pockets and measured from the bottom of my hand to where I wanted the dress to end on my knee. It was about 15 inches for me. I did the same from the top of my hand to my armpit. Make sure you make the pocket big, like the curved part.

I didn't take a picture of this part, but for the skirt I just put a skirt on the paper, folded in half and traced it. I gave myself some extra length for seam allowance and just because I wanted the dress longer than the skirt I was using.

Put your pattern piece on the fold of the fabric. The only thing that will be different for the front and back piece is how deep the neck is. I made my pattern piece using the front neck of my shirt. And then just guesstimated for the back.

Using a zigzag or stretch stitch, sew up the front and back with the right sides together. I used about a 5/8 inch seam allowance. But it depends on how much seam allowance you gave yourself when tracing and how you want it to fit. So I realized when I uploaded all of these pictures, I never took any pictures of the sleeves and how to make them. So here is a website that will help you with it.

When you are cutting out the sleeves, on a striped dress like this one, you want to make sure you line up the lines on the bodice of the dress and the sleeve.

Fold the right sides of your sleeve together and then sew. I put elastic in the end of my sleeve, so you just fold the sleeve up to where you want to the land on your arm. Sew, but remember to leave an opening where you will fish the elastic through.

Putting a safety pin through the elastic makes it much easier to fish is through the sleeve.

Fish the elastic through and tighten it so it fits around your arm as much as you want it.

Sew the elastic up. You can't sew it too much. Then once you have done this, sew the rest of the seam on the sleeve, where you had the hole. I recommend sewing the elastic and sleeve together, so the elastic won't turn.

When you are setting the sleeve in, match up the seams.

Then pin it all around. You should have to stretch the material to fit, so it will be snug.

Then cut a strip about 2-3 inches wide and about a foot long. Give or take depending on the size of your neck opening.

Put right sides together and sew the narrow end.

Fold it in half the long way. Then you are going to set this in the exact same way you did the sleeves.

This is the finished neck piece. Then hem up the bottom and you are done!

Sorry if this is the worst tutorial you have ever seen, but it's the first one I have ever done. I hope it makes sense. If you have any questions I will do my best at answering them!

Until next time!

Remember when?

Remember when I said I was going to make a dress?
And I said I would take some pictures of it?
Well I finally did. Here they are.
Well here it is. Sam only took one good photo.
I'm still training him.
It's made out of knit-PONTE. I got it at Joanns on super sale.
I followed the pattern by Cynthia Rowley 0404.
It was pretty easy to work with.

Until next time!

Dress

Today I am going to attempt to make a dress.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Hopefully well.
Maybe I'll even snap a photo with my phone.
Who knows. I might go crazy!

Until next time!

Sour Patch Kids.

I love Sour Patch Kids. They are delicious!
Sam got me a little box for my stocking this year, but I knew they wouldn't last me that long.
Somehow I convinced him today to let me
buy a TWO pound bag of them! He told me I had to pace myself
when eating them. I told him
I would make them last until the end of January. Let's see how well I do.

Also here is a picture of the quilt I made Sam. The picture
is from my phone, so it doesn't look the best.
It's also folded some, so it looks a little different.

I love how it turned out. I told Sam that I think I have become
addicted to quilting, because it's not this
extremely difficult process, but the reward is so awesome! I love it!!

I will have to take some pictures of Sam's and my Christmas pajamas and show you them. They are cute!

Until next time!

Quilting!

Like I said before, I don't have my camera cord, so unfortunately
I don't have any pictures of the quilt I made Sam.
It turned out way cool. I really love it. It actually wasn't that hard. I did pretty much everything on it my own. I made every cut and sewed it all on my own. The only thing I had help with was Sam helped me tie it and Momma Syd helped me figure out how to set it all up. It is my first quilt you know!
I can't wait to show you the pictures!! Now I need to
sew Sam's Christmas pajamas and sew up the
rest of my sister's gifts. I know that they will be late, but nothing says
Merry Christmas like late presents right?
That's what I thought!!
I will take some pictures of that stuff as well and put them up when I have my camera cord.
I hope that you all have the best Christmas ever!!!
Merry Christmas Eve tomorrow!!!!

Until next time!

My fingers

Last night I finally finished sewing all of the blocks for Sam's
quilt. I cut them all out the day before. Now we are
tying the quilt and my fingers hurt sooo bad!
But I have to keep going so I can wrap this baby up for Christmas morning!
 Yikes.
I don't know what I was thinking when I chose this project...
Until next time!

Done!

So I finished all of my finals on Wednesday!! And it was the
BEST feeling ever. I have gotten back
my grades from all of my classes. Well technically that's a lie.
I have gotten the grade I got on the final back and
then calculated my final grade. I got an A in all of my classes, except STATISTICS. :( I got a B+. Which is not bad by any means, but
I of course wanted an A. Oh well.
On Thursday Sam finished his finals, we packed up everything that we could need for break, and then headed up to his
parents house. They left to go visit their daughter Christina in Vegas for the weekend, so we have just been hanging out and
watching the animals. Fun stuff. Tomorrow we are going skiing. I am excited to
be able to ski for as many days as I want over break. YAY.
Now I need to get cracking on Sam's Christmas gift. I am making him a quilt. It's my first one so wish me luck!
Are you guys making any handmade gifts?
Until next time!

Things

Just a couple of things. I am no longer freaking out, to the point to crying my eyes out, about school. It was really just
my statistics class. Because I had absolutely no idea how to anything.
I can still hardly wait for finals to be over. I finish Wednesday
Sam finishes Thursday. Thursday will be a
happy day because we get to leave Pocatello for almost a whole month. And then I get to spend endless amounts of time with cute little
Lecil. Can't wait. She is fun!

Here are some things that I have been doing while avoiding studying for finals.

This cute little Christmas Sprocket Pillow.

Sam gave me some moral support and made the fabric buttons.

I love them they are so cute!

pinned this mac and cheese a while ago and just got
around to making it. Sam will have you know
that he did help with this meal! For the recipe go here.

For now I am in the throws of studying my brains out
and attempting to finish up some pajama pants.

Until next time!

I stink at the whole posting pictures thing.

So I have probably said three times that I will post pictures of the latest projects that I have made and have failed to post those pictures every time. But have no fear I have actually taken the pictures. Ha. Now I just need to post them. I don't know why I haven't done it yet. Every time I think about plugging in my camera and uploading pictures I find myself thinking of anything else to do.

Anywho, here are some of the things that I have done lately, and all by myself!

These bags were made using the Simplicity E5151 pattern. Mine look slightly different than the pattern but I like them!

I notice that the bag in this picture looks like one side is taller than the other, but it's really not, just my not so great photo taking.

If you haven't ever seen the tutorial for this pillow on Cluck Cluck Sew then you should definitely check it out. It is super easy to make. I made mine with a zipper and I didn't use a pillow form so I have some lumps in my pillow. Oh well. I have already made another one of these for a Christmas present. They are super easy and quick to make!

These pajama pants were made for Sam, but I wear them all the time! They were made with the McCall's M6252 pattern. Super simple to make, I probably didn't need to buy a pattern, but it only cost me $1. sorry for the wrinkles, they have been getting a lot of wear, and ignore Sam's feet. haha.  These are a little baggy but we like to wear pajama pants under our snow pants when we ski, they allow us some range of motion.

Well those are the projects that I have finished and taken pictures of.

Until next time!

oh happy day!

Yesterday my sweet new sewing machine arrived! I returned my old one last Monday and waited a whole week and a half for this puppy to arrive. So happy that it finally did. I already made Sam some pajama bottoms that he was wanting. He really like to wear under his snow pants when skiing. They were quite simple to make. I just had this pattern from Mccalls. Which by the way I got on SUPER sale. Joann's had these sales last week where one day all of the simplicity patterns were 99 cents and the next day all of the Mccall ones were 99 cents. BEST. DEAL. EVER. I grabbed up a bunch of patterns. Some of them will have to wait until I am a better sewer. When I get home (I am in Chemistry right now) I will have to take some pictures of the pants. I also made a couple things with my old machine that I will show you. My goal for today is to sew up this skirt. I have one that I made from this pattern already, and love it so I am going to make another one. You can never have too many skirts right??

Until next time!
