Saturday Favorites?

1) Getting to sleep in until 8:15 this morning.

2) Waking Pippen up and having him cuddle with you for at least 3 minutes before he goes crazy.

3) That bloomin' onion we had last night at Texas Roadhouse.

4) Taking TWO midterms this week and getting an 89 and 91 on them. Holler.
It's always nice to see when hard work pays off. Lets hope it happens again this week, when I have two more midterms.

5) Finishing all of my Halloween decorations with good friends last weekend. I will have to post pictures of them. that will require me cleaning the apartment first...

6) Diet Dr. Pepper and for its ability to keep me awake and sane all at the same time!

Until next time!

Guys school is HARD

I am telling you it is just so overwhelmingly hard that I feel on the brink of tears all the time.
I am still not sure if it is actually hard, or if it is just so much stuff all at the same time that I am just trying to keep up but don't know how to.
I have all of this stuff that I need to do when I get home from school,
but all I want to do is nothing.
I just want a break, but I don't have time for a break.
Like this week for example, I had a quiz in my preventive dentistry class today, a probe test in clinic today(because I failed the first one last week), a midterm for clinic lecture Wednesday, a journal due for clinic lecture due Wednesday, the curved explorer test for clinic on Wednesday, a midterm for tooth morphology on Thursday, a tooth ID quiz for tooth morphology on Thursday, a quiz for Medical Emergencies due by Thursday. OMG.
Why am I on here when I have all this junk to do?!?
Oh that's right, because if I don't take 5 minutes for myself, I will literally have a mental breakdown.
Last Monday I failed my probe test in clinic. They (as in my instructors) like to say you didn't fail you just weren't "successful" on the first attempt.
I just know I failed it. And only because I didn't put my pen on a laminated card, when I was charting probe depths.
Then when I got home I just bawled my eyes out. Because I felt like a serious failure.
And then last Tuesday I got my oral histology test back and I legit failed it.
And that made me want to cry all day on Tuesday and Wednesday.
And then I really missed my family and that made me cry even more.
Let's just say it will probably be a miracle if I make it these next two years without some kind of medication.
Sorry for the serious rant.
But now I might be able to get some stuff done.
Maybe.

Until next time!

Friday Favorites

1) Simply the fact that it is Friday should be enough. I made it through this week. Holler

2) I got a 97 on my head and neck anatomy test. My oral histology and embryology grade will probably be another story. As in a 60 would be awesome! He is grading them this weekend so I guess I will find out.

3) Oh hey, it's Friday.

4) Chuck has a big test on Monday that he is studying for, which generally means I can have a little retail therapy without him telling me no. haha

5) Since I don't have a lot of homework this weekend, maybe I will bust out my sewing machine and finish up some projects that I started.

That's all I got. Maybe more things will come to me, but right now I am drawing a blank.

Until next time!

A Very Long Week

Last week was a week straight from hell I tell ya.
It was long and just exhausting.
All last week end was spent studying my butt off for the three tests that I had last week.
I studied and studied some more for head and neck anatomy.
That test was on Tuesday and wasn't too bad.
I am sure I did okay.
Then as soon I finished that test, I had to start studying for my tests on Thursday.
Thursday rolls around and I have a quick 10 question quiz in tooth morphology.
I thought this quiz was going to be intense and really hard so I studied for hours.
However it was really easy I would have been okay studying for like 30 minutes.
Then I went to my tooth morphology lab where we were carving the crown of tooth # nine (think the big teeth in the front on the top).
This is much harder than one thinks.
We only had 1 hour and 45 minutes to carve it perfectly, grade ourselves and take a tooth identification quiz.
So I start carving that the time goes way too fast and at the end my tooth looks not so good.
So I only got a 79% on it. BOOOOO.
Then I have my oral histology test.
And that fricker was HARD. Just ridiculous.
I don't really enjoy my professor for that class and he didn't test on the stuff he emphasized in lecture like he said he was.
At this point I am exhausted and want to cry.
Then Sam and I find out that a good family friend passed away on Wednesday.
Very sad but for the best.
Last year he got in a mule accident and was paralyzed from the neck down.
Then Friday we learn that the funeral was on Saturday.
So we drove up to Rigby to be able to attend.
It was a really nice service.
The man that passed away is named Clyde.
And he was really good friends with Sam's dad, Alan.
And Clyde requested that Alan drive him to the cemetery with his horses and wagon. It was very nice.
It is so sad that he is no longer here but I know that he his no longer in pain and that he is in a better place.
On Saturday after the funeral we went to Rexburg to see Jill and Kegan.
It's always nice just to get away and not worry about school.
Especially after a terrible week.
Here's to hoping this week is better!

Until next time!

A Hallelujah Moment

Today I had a Hallelujah Moment.
I took my first written test in dental hygiene.
It was for head and neck anatomy.
And let me tell you how excited I am that it is over.
FLIPPING EXCITED!
I might not be so excited when I see my score, but I don't know yet.
Anyways I have two more tests this week,
both on Thursday.
And I have a billion other little things to accomplish before Friday,
but for now I am going to take a couple hours and do NOTHING.
Toodles!

Until next time!

Friday Favorites. Again on Saturday

1) I passed all of my QA's this week in clinic. The first one was a bit rough and nerve racking. After I finished it, I was the patient for someone and they took my blood pressure and it was like 150/90. So threw the roof.

2) Today my sister got MARRIED!!! I'm so excited for her. And so sad that I couldn't be there.

3) Playing with Pip and seeing his personality develop. He is like on crack
ALL. THE. TIME. He is so funny to watch though.

5) Chuck took me to Red Lobster last night. It was delish and I got stuffed to the brim.

6) I got my loupes for school today. We all ordered them at orientation. I got a sweet light with mine. These babies cost $1000 and the light was an extra $500. That's right folks, I spent $1500 on flipping glasses.
OH. MY. FLIP. Make me cry.

Until next time!

Saturday Edition of Friday Favorites

1) I passed my first qualifying assessment for clinic. A qualifying assessment or QA is like a test. Now I can point out all sorts of oral landmarks in your mouth.

2) Did a practice tooth carving and told if I turned it in for a real grade I would have gotten around a B+ or A-. Which is fine by me!

3) Chuck and I started a running program. It's called Couch to 5K. We decided on this one because neither one of us are runners and it seemed like nice easy pace to keep up with. So far it feels great!

4) I have been making lots of friends in my program. It's so nice to actually know people in my classes.

5) After a very long time of thinking and debating, Chuck and I finally decided to get a ferret. And we LOVE him. We picked him up last night. He is so fun!
Expect a whole post on him when I can get some pictures of the little bugger. We named him Pip.

Until next time!

Friday Favorites

1) Compared to last week, this week flew by. Holler.

2) Today in clinic (where I use my actual instruments), we worked on real people instead of just our dentoform. (PS that is pretty much exactly what I payed for mine)

3) My faculty instructor (an actual hygienist that teaches groups a 5 students) said that I did really well.

4) Crossing things off your to-do list that have been on it for about a week. THE. BEST. FEELING. EVER.

5) Checking ones bank account balance and being surprised at how much is in there. This might be a better feeling than #4.

Until next time!

Hard

Folks, this school stuff is hard.
Not actually hard hard, but hard as in "how do I balance everything?!?"
I think that should be a prerequisite course for this program.
How to balance your time.
There is soooo much reading to be done.
Before (as in my classes before the program) if I was "assigned"
a reading, I didn't really do it.
But now I HAVE to do it.
Or I have no idea what is going on.
And I have actual quizzes on this junk.
Not only am I struggling to balance just the school work,
but also school with life.
The first week of school, was literally just school.
I didn't do anything else.
Sam cooked and cleaned.
Speaking of Sam, the poor guy keeps asking me to spend time with him, and I don't know how to do that and get everything I need done for school.
Let alone exercise, have fun and not want to cry.
Flip flip flippity flip.
I am trying to figure this out.
I think it might just be one of the toughest things about this program.
(Besides trying to hold an actual instrument. Let me tell you that is harder than it looks)
Well my "free" time is up!
I must go read another billion pages. :)

Until next time!

Accepted

I have been accepted to the Dental Hygiene Program at Idaho State University.
Woot Woot!
I am beyond excited!
Now it means I will for sure be graduating in TWO years.
Can hardly stinking wait!
Now we just wait to hear back from the pharmacy program for Sam.
We should hear on Friday or Saturday.
It will be the best spring break ever if he also gets in.

Until next time!

Weekend Review

This was a odd weekend compared to the ones that I normally have.
I braced myself all week with the knowledge that we wouldn't get to leave the dreadful city of Pocatello.
So when Friday finally came it wasn't the most awful feeling in the world.
We had to stay here this weekend because Sam and I both had our interviews.
Sam's was Friday and he think that it went pretty well.
They send out acceptance letter March 29 and 30.
My interview was Saturday. Everything went pretty well.
They had us take a reasoning test which was super lame.
One of the questions was like this:
An ID badge or guest pass is required to get in the maternity ward.
What does this mean?
A) If you are in the ward you have to have an ID badge.
B) If you are in the ward you may have a guest pass.
C) If are were not allowed in the ward you did not have a guest pass.
And blah blah blah
It was slightly ridiculous.
But I did it and got it done.
I should hear whether I am accepted by April 1.
Hopefully we will both get in and be one step closer to finishing.
After my interview, the weather was absolutely beautiful.
So we went and got some frozen yogurt.
Then Sam's parents came down to take us out to dinner.
We went to the Red Lobster.
It was delicious as usual!
We all love seafood, so the Red Lobster was a no brainer.
Did you guys do anything fun this weekend??
Let me know!
Seriously!

Until next time!

Done... Kind of

I finished my test that I had today and the paper that was due today.
I may or may not have finished the paper 30 minutes before it was due,
but who is counting?
Not me.
Now I need to study for my anatomy test on Wednesday.
Fix that junky paper I wrote.
Write a paper for Friday.
Go to my interview Saturday.
And study for my Poli Sci test Monday.
Should be a blast.
I don't have any classes on Thursday so that works out nicely.
Maybe I will sew a little.
Hopefully.

Until next time!

Friday Favorites

1) Did I ever tell you guys that my genius husband was invited to the Pharmacy interview? Well he was and interviews next Friday. ALL. DAY.

2) I was also invited to the Dental Hygiene interview next Saturday.

3) Realizing that my next week from junk is next week and not this week.

4) Buying some super cute fabric for some baby shower gifts.

5) We filed our taxes this week. I can hardly wait for March 7th.

6) I did not have English class all week because we had the time off to talk with our professor about the 1600 word paper we wrote due Monday. I better start that....

7) My political science professor pushing our test and paper back by like a week and a half. I also better get started on that paper. Yikes.

Until next time!

To Transfer....

Or to not transfer is the question that Sam and I have been plagued with this semester. Sam made the decision this semester that this would be the last semester of studying mechanical engineering. Instead he has made the decision to study pharmacy. I am pretty excited about this because that means we could live pretty much wherever we wanted after he graduated from school. But it also means that he has a lot longer in school left than we originally thought. Right after high school he left for his mission, so he is only in his third semester. He was just about to apply to the ME program after the semester, but not anymore. He hasn't really taken any classes that help him get into pharmacy school. So we are looking at about three more semester of prerequisites, and then once he is accepted, pharmacy school is four years. They certainly make you do a lot of work for that Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. So since Sam has changed his major, we had to start thinking about where he would want to go to school. his first choice is Idaho State University. That works out well for me because they also have a dental hygiene program. We applied for the Fall semester of 2011 and still need to send transcripts and such. We are pretty sure that we will get in to the school but we each have a few more classes to take before we can apply to our perspective programs. Why transfer in the fall you ask? Well because if Sam gets most of his prerequisites from there it looks better, and they give priority to Idaho residents. Also I should be able to apply to the Dental Hygiene program in December 2011 for the Fall 2012 semester. So I would need to be there already and all that jazz. Ah the joys of being a college student. I can hardly wait to be done with it all. However it is looking like I have three years left at least. Flip, flip, flip that is forever. But I will have a Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene from ISU, most other schools only give you an Associates Degree. So there is a plus side of it all.

Until next time!
