A Very Long Week

Last week was a week straight from hell I tell ya.
It was long and just exhausting.
All last week end was spent studying my butt off for the three tests that I had last week.
I studied and studied some more for head and neck anatomy.
That test was on Tuesday and wasn't too bad.
I am sure I did okay.
Then as soon I finished that test, I had to start studying for my tests on Thursday.
Thursday rolls around and I have a quick 10 question quiz in tooth morphology.
I thought this quiz was going to be intense and really hard so I studied for hours.
However it was really easy I would have been okay studying for like 30 minutes.
Then I went to my tooth morphology lab where we were carving the crown of tooth # nine (think the big teeth in the front on the top).
This is much harder than one thinks.
We only had 1 hour and 45 minutes to carve it perfectly, grade ourselves and take a tooth identification quiz.
So I start carving that the time goes way too fast and at the end my tooth looks not so good.
So I only got a 79% on it. BOOOOO.
Then I have my oral histology test.
And that fricker was HARD. Just ridiculous.
I don't really enjoy my professor for that class and he didn't test on the stuff he emphasized in lecture like he said he was.
At this point I am exhausted and want to cry.
Then Sam and I find out that a good family friend passed away on Wednesday.
Very sad but for the best.
Last year he got in a mule accident and was paralyzed from the neck down.
Then Friday we learn that the funeral was on Saturday.
So we drove up to Rigby to be able to attend.
It was a really nice service.
The man that passed away is named Clyde.
And he was really good friends with Sam's dad, Alan.
And Clyde requested that Alan drive him to the cemetery with his horses and wagon. It was very nice.
It is so sad that he is no longer here but I know that he his no longer in pain and that he is in a better place.
On Saturday after the funeral we went to Rexburg to see Jill and Kegan.
It's always nice just to get away and not worry about school.
Especially after a terrible week.
Here's to hoping this week is better!

Until next time!

A Hallelujah Moment

Today I had a Hallelujah Moment.
I took my first written test in dental hygiene.
It was for head and neck anatomy.
And let me tell you how excited I am that it is over.
FLIPPING EXCITED!
I might not be so excited when I see my score, but I don't know yet.
Anyways I have two more tests this week,
both on Thursday.
And I have a billion other little things to accomplish before Friday,
but for now I am going to take a couple hours and do NOTHING.
Toodles!

Until next time!

Friday Favorites. Again on Saturday

1) I passed all of my QA's this week in clinic. The first one was a bit rough and nerve racking. After I finished it, I was the patient for someone and they took my blood pressure and it was like 150/90. So threw the roof.

2) Today my sister got MARRIED!!! I'm so excited for her. And so sad that I couldn't be there.

3) Playing with Pip and seeing his personality develop. He is like on crack
ALL. THE. TIME. He is so funny to watch though.

5) Chuck took me to Red Lobster last night. It was delish and I got stuffed to the brim.

6) I got my loupes for school today. We all ordered them at orientation. I got a sweet light with mine. These babies cost $1000 and the light was an extra $500. That's right folks, I spent $1500 on flipping glasses.
OH. MY. FLIP. Make me cry.

Until next time!

Let me tell you about my night

First off I spilled a whole glass of soda on the couch and myself.
I went to get changed and try to soak the soda up off the couch.
While I am doing this Sam goes to get some ice cream and finds it all melted.
He goes to put in on the counter and drops the melted ice cream every where.
All the while little Pippen is running around all over the place.
And then we discover our fridge is broken and everything in the freezer is thawing out.
So I call the manager and she says we can't get a new fridge until tomorrow.
So we can put our food into an empty apartment within the complex.
So we lug all of our food over there
And then we come back home and go running to forget about our problems.
Good times!

Until next time!

Saturday Edition of Friday Favorites

1) I passed my first qualifying assessment for clinic. A qualifying assessment or QA is like a test. Now I can point out all sorts of oral landmarks in your mouth.

2) Did a practice tooth carving and told if I turned it in for a real grade I would have gotten around a B+ or A-. Which is fine by me!

3) Chuck and I started a running program. It's called Couch to 5K. We decided on this one because neither one of us are runners and it seemed like nice easy pace to keep up with. So far it feels great!

4) I have been making lots of friends in my program. It's so nice to actually know people in my classes.

5) After a very long time of thinking and debating, Chuck and I finally decided to get a ferret. And we LOVE him. We picked him up last night. He is so fun!
Expect a whole post on him when I can get some pictures of the little bugger. We named him Pip.

Until next time!

Friday Favorites

1) Compared to last week, this week flew by. Holler.

2) Today in clinic (where I use my actual instruments), we worked on real people instead of just our dentoform. (PS that is pretty much exactly what I payed for mine)

3) My faculty instructor (an actual hygienist that teaches groups a 5 students) said that I did really well.

4) Crossing things off your to-do list that have been on it for about a week. THE. BEST. FEELING. EVER.

5) Checking ones bank account balance and being surprised at how much is in there. This might be a better feeling than #4.

Until next time!

Hard

Folks, this school stuff is hard.
Not actually hard hard, but hard as in "how do I balance everything?!?"
I think that should be a prerequisite course for this program.
How to balance your time.
There is soooo much reading to be done.
Before (as in my classes before the program) if I was "assigned"
a reading, I didn't really do it.
But now I HAVE to do it.
Or I have no idea what is going on.
And I have actual quizzes on this junk.
Not only am I struggling to balance just the school work,
but also school with life.
The first week of school, was literally just school.
I didn't do anything else.
Sam cooked and cleaned.
Speaking of Sam, the poor guy keeps asking me to spend time with him, and I don't know how to do that and get everything I need done for school.
Let alone exercise, have fun and not want to cry.
Flip flip flippity flip.
I am trying to figure this out.
I think it might just be one of the toughest things about this program.
(Besides trying to hold an actual instrument. Let me tell you that is harder than it looks)
Well my "free" time is up!
I must go read another billion pages. :)

Until next time!
